History

30 Years of Riding Together

The HOG Perth Chapter was formed in 1989, established with 57 members in the first year.  We were the 4th Chapter to be formed in Australia, and WA's original Chapter.  We are the only Chapter in Australia to have its nickname HOGWest approved by HOG.  Our sponsoring dealer was initially Bikeworld, and Fast Eddy's on Murray Street in the CBD was a regular meeting point.  Many rides were on a 'turn up and we'll figure out where we are going' basis.

Our Beginnings

In 1992 Fraser Motorcycles became the Chapter's sponsoring dealer, with membership growing to 110.  Our first 'Lady Rider', Lynne Hamilton, joined the Chapter.  The first National HOG Rally was held in Darwin with 19 HOGWest Members (11 bikes) departing for the round trip.

The Hong Kong Chapter visited Perth in 1993 with the Chapter hosting a round trip ride from Perth-Kalgoorlie-Esperance-Albany-Margaret River-Fremantle - approximately 2,400km.

The Perth Chapter hosted the 7th National HOG Rally in Noalimba in 1996.  The 2nd WA HOG Rally was held in 1999 at Fairbridge.  Other rallies held in WAS was the 13th National HOG Rally at Sorrento in 2002, and the 21st National HOG Rally at Margaret River in 2011.  A host of State Rallies have been held in Kalbarri, Pemberton, Augusta and Bridgetown.

Some memorable annual events over the years include ANZAC Day Dawn Service Rides, Christmas in July, Annual Kalbarri Run (2017 was our 10th consecutive year), Soft Butt Ride to the WA/SA Border, Christmas rides and parties, and the Salvos Annual Toy Run.

There have been many frequent destinations such as - Albany, Bridgetown, Cunderdin, Margaret River, Merredin, Quindanning, Wongan Hills, and York.

2019 had us celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Chapter, we farewelled Fraser Motorcycles Perth as our sponsoring dealer as the franchise was sold. And we begin 2020 with the opening of Highway Harley-Davidson in Midvale

Today our membership totals over 200 members.
